"In grammar school they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fairy tale. In the university they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fact!" -Ron Carlson
This is the strangest thing I've ever read in a textbook. From "Learning and Behavior, fifth edition," by Paul Chance:
It is now more than a hundred years since the death of Charles Darwin, and creationism is still taught in our schools.
Oh, the humanity, oh the.... um.... which planet was that again? Not one I've ever been to. Every science class I've ever taken, no matter what the supposed emphasis, could easily be called Evolution 101. Don't get me wrong; I think evolution should be taught.... as a theory, not fact, since it is just a theory. It's quite a stretch to claim Creationism is taught in schools. If it's ever even mentioned, it's so that the teacher can scoff at it, and laugh at those ignorant uneducated individuals who still cling to fundamentalist superstitious religion. Nevermind the fact that there are serious scientific objections to evolution. But don't get me started on that debate. Back to the original purpose of this post, I just had to laugh when I read that. I just love how some people are so afraid of religion, they have to make up reasons to attack it. Like the people who can't stand to see a cross anywhere, so they fight tooth and nail to get all visible crosses removed. What are they afraid of? Why is Chance so afraid of Creation that he has to complain about it being taught where it really isn't? Why is it some people want religion removed so completely from society, so that one cannot even talk about anything having to do with it? It's freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
