Spirit of America

If you're looking for a worthwhile charity to donate to, this is one you'll definitely want to check out. Spirit of America is an organization that provides much needed supplies to Iraq and Afghanistan. Their goal is to not only help the people of those countries, but also to improve foreign perceptions of America by letting the people know that, yes, we really do want to help them and their countries. They have a variety of projects going, from construction tools to school supplies, and you can choose which one you want your donation to go to. Just a few examples:

Marines and SeaBees Seek Tools for Iraqi Tradesmen Help those who make a commitment to improving their country.
Sewing Machines For Women in Ramadi Putting economic power in women's hands.
Iraq's Universities Support Iraq's next generation leaders by re-equipping higher education.
Library Books for Iraqi Children Help kids who want to read and learn with books for children's libraries.

Since I have limitied funds (being a student and all) I could only choose one, so I went with Special Forces in Afghanistan: Part Two
The first project went so well, we decided to do it again!
A few months back, we posted a request from Special Forces who wanted to help in Afghanistan. Donors responded so overwhelmingly that we received enough funds to implement a second project. This time, Sergeant Tredway is bringing school supplies and sports equipment to chidren in Afghanistan. His goal is "to increase the receptivity of Americans in Afghanistan to foster democratic ideals and to broaden the spectrum of activity for Afghan youth."
So hey, check out the site, maybe give a few dollars to a project that strikes your fancy. By the way, it's tax deductable, and it's what all the really cool bloggers are doing. ;)
