"In grammar school they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fairy tale. In the university they taught me that a frog turning into a prince was a fact!" -Ron Carlson
Weird stuff has been falling from the sky today. Well, not really weird, but stuff that doesn't normally come from the sky. Burned leaves of course are everywhere, but we've also been finding bits of charred paper with print on them that look like they came from books or magazines. You can actually read the print on them. This one rather large piece that fell in our backyard is a bit of a page with quotations on it from famous people. The heading is "Famous Last Words." How's that for irony? Weird to think that yesterday that book was probably sitting on someone's coffee table. We're still here, but the cars are packed to go if we need to. The most frustrating thing is, there are so many fires going on that the news can't keep track of them all, so we don't even know where exactly the two fires are that could potentially be threatening our neighborhood. No police cars have come through this area though, so we're staying put for now. At least I'm pretty sure my class tonight is cancelled. I should probably call just to make sure. I'm really wondering about tomorrow though. I wonder if my geography teacher would be cruel enough to not postpone the test scheduled for tomorrow. Heh, the news just reported that every school in the county will be closed tomorrow except Borrego Springs - but only because they can't get a hold of them, so they don't know. And I don't know if that includes colleges or not. I doubt it; it sounded like they were talking about elementary, middle, and high school. Ah well, at least after all is said and done, there'll hardly be anything left in San Diego County to burn.
ETA: More useful and frequent updates than the media is providing can be found at Citizen Smash. And the news just announced that my community college district will be closed tomorrow. Wahoo! No geography test!
